Professional skills and ethics Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Professional skills and ethics - Term Paper Example Corporate Social Responsibility in Marketing in the Aviation Industry Over the years, environmental interests and various laws and regulations have caused for there to be a general change in the way most organizations view the notion of sustainable business actions. Most of the companies in the aviation industry frequently find that they how have to constantly ask themselves is to what extent do they happen to act responsibly. The paramount reason that causes companies to engage in business is to ensure that the owners and employees stand to gain various economic benefits. Any other actions by the various businesses are frequently considered to be secondary responsibilities and most firms have been ignoring them over the past years (Sun et al. 2010). In recent times that a new system of business has emerged that has forced players in the industry to change the way they conduct business due to the increasing awareness of corporate social responsibility and the vast impact that the ind ustry has on the environment (Sun et al. 2010). ... s customers coupled with the customer’s frequent desire to obtain the very best of services at reasonably decent prices makes it a prerequisite for most of the industry’s operators to ensure that they market their product as being innately cost efficient while offering their customers the very best services that are available. Companies and various operators in the industry are finding this to be increasingly difficult to do due to their incurring rather high operating costs which have been seen to affect and have a profound influence in the entire industry (Flouris and Yilmaz 2011). The Challenges Facing the Conduction of Responsible Business Practices for both Individuals and Organizations in the Aviation Industry Environmental Challenges. The aviation industry is facing the challenge of developing appropriate and sustainable CSR models because it has been forecast that the industry should poise itself for a rather tremendous general increase in the rate of flight tra ffic over the next 15 years. The increased air traffic will consequently result in a general increase in raw material consumption, increased carbon emissions as well as an overall increase in pollution that is resultant of the industries activities. Industry Marketers are finding that they increasingly need to develop actions that will appease and fulfill all the stakeholders’ expectations as well as ensuring that the airlines are sufficiently taking care of the environment (Phillips 2006). Efforts by marketers in the aviation industry to promote the various players in the industry as having appropriate corporate social responsibility practices are being severely hampered by a report released by the Aviation Environment Federation which showed the estimated damage to the environment and society

Retail Brands Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Retail Brands - Case Study Example It is a leading retailer in food, clothing and home-ware and financial services, in operation since 1884. Zara is a leading Spanish Flagship Chain Store that deals in Women and Men's clothing. It opened its first store in 1975 and since then has taken retail fashion by storm. It is one of the largest brands, by the Inditex Fashion Retail Group, that has 723 stores in 56 countries making sales of Euro 3.8 billion (India Supply Chain Council, 2006). Zara's fashion is based on imitation; it copies designs from the catwalk and other spots and brings them to their customers at low prices in as little as a couple of weeks. Marks and Spencer's average customer is mainly women aged between 35 and 54. They are wealthy and have an active lifestyle. They are also family-oriented and are open to trying new things (MMC Consultancy, 2004). Zara's average customer is aged between 15 to 30 years of age. They are fashion-focused and have a desire for high-end fashion. The average customer is an urban woman who is not necessarily exceptionally wealthy and looks for trendy clothes in reasonable prices. (Nidasio G., 2007) It was assumed that Marks and Spencer would do better with 70% of the stores being refurbished. Their strategy to increase market share for the past three years has been the same. This year, and the last, they still managed to come back at a higher position (after their big downfall till 2004). It is one of the few retail stores in the UK that managed to increase their market share in 2007, with high interest rates and low consumer confidence. Zara's position in the retail market has always been a leading one. This year was no different. It increased profits by expanding to into more territories. It hold a stronger position in the fashion retail industry than many other foreign labels. Sales, Profit and Market Share Marks and Spencer's sales turnover, for the year ended 31 March 2007, was Pound 8,588.1 million. The sales breakdown for 2006/2007 was as follows: Clothing was at Pound 3,570,900 and Home was at Pound 431,900 (with the rest accounting for Food and International slaes). The profit before tax was Pound 1,007 million, which was a 4.3% increase. According to Stuart Rose, Chief Executive of M&S, sales fell by 2.2% by the end of December, during Christmas season. The market share for women wear fell during Christmas time also. However, the sales in UK rose by 9.7%. The market share held by clothing and footwear in 2007 was at 11.1%. (TNS WorldPanel Fashion,Your M&S, 2008). Zara, on the other hand, has a very high product turnover. It makes more than 11,000 products annually. The annual report of Zara (Inditex) for the fiscal year 2006 covers all activities from February 2006 to January 2007. Zara opened 138 new stores during the past year, increasing its selling area by 15%. The sales were an increase of 21% at Euro 5,352 million. It earned net profit of Euro 1 billion (Safe G., 2007) an increase of 25%, was in contrast to last year's profit. The sales in Europe, with exception to Spain, were 40.6% of the total (Inditex Annual Report, 2007). Store Design Zara's typical store is a principally white, modern and spacious store; it is bright and has

Difference Between Mash And Star Topology Computer Science Essay

Difference Between Mash And Star Topology Computer Science Essay In this part of the assignment, the difference between Mash and Star Topology will be examined. Additionally, the Network topology in general will be discussed in detailed with other network topology. Network topology is one of the most significant topics to learn before start building up computer network. Network topology is the physical arrangement of nodes, A node is any network device, such as a computer, work station, or switching unit. Basically a topology describes how a network is linked , it is the structure of the network. In networking topologies are very important because they have significant role on flexibility and reliability. Firstly, Mash topology is to be examined. According to Ratliff (2000) Mash topology is †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦The most basic type of topology to understand is the mesh topology. In a pure mesh network, each node has a physical connection to all other nodes.†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦.. while Star topology is †¦consists of a central hub with spokes extending out from it and terminating in nodes .. Mesh is a type of network topology which †¦can use an alternative†¦route to deliver data If any of the cables fail. In that point mesh network topology is one of the most reasonable network topology. However when number of nodes increases, mesh topology becomes unwieldy and expensive. Another negative aspect is requires too many cable works. Because mesh topology requires more cable than other topologies. The equation of Mesh network is Ln=[Nn(Nn-1)] in this equation Ln stands for number of links required and Nn stands for number of nodes in the network. On the other hand Star topology as it has mentioned above every node linked to the central device called, hub or switch. Also star topologies are usually used for LAN networking and it is one of the most popular topology today. Altough The star is one of the older topologies. Star topologies are very easy to install and wire. In addition detecting fault removing faulty parts is easier in star topology. Another good advantage of using star topology is if any node fails or is removed it doesnt affect network so Network never fails Unless central device or hub fails. To compare star and mesh topology there one major difference which is about coverage of the network mesh topologies commonly used for WAN (Wide area networks) on the other hand Star is commonly used for LAN (Local are networks).Another difference is to setup star network you need a central hub or switch to link nodes together. But to setup mesh topology you dont need central device because In mesh topology computers or nodes connected directly to each other on many alternative routes. Mesh topology network failure tolarence is less than star topology because even if more than one cable fails system still can run. However in star topology is the same unless central device fails network can still run smoothly. Furthermore, there are three more network topologies which are Ring network topology, Bus network topology and Tree network topology. Firstly Ring Network topology is to be examined. In ring topology nodes linked to each other and data are sent around the circle from node to node. In recent years ring network topology was popular in LAN networking and two popular networking technologies which are ARCNET and TOKEN used ring topology. According to Ratliff (2000) In ring topology Message transmission can use one of two techniques. In the first, the transmitting node gains access to the ring and sends data to the receiving node; the receiving removes the message from the ring. In second technique, the sender transmits the message, and the receiver makes a copy of the message rather than removing it from the ring. The message then returns to the transmitter and serves as an acknowledgement that it was received. Ring network topology is very easy to extend. All you need to do is break the ring and plug in node. As you can see easy to make changes, makes ring topology very flexible. In Ring network you dont need network server to manage connectivity between the nodes because nodes connected each other with wires. Also performance is better than a star network if network is under heavy network load because data passes in only one direction. However there are significant negative aspects. The major problem is If one node fails, all network system might fail. Another negative aspect of ring networks is that if a node is added, the network must stop working temporarily. Because when a node is added firstly you need to cut the connection and add the node. Bus network topology is one of the oldest topologies in networking history. Bus topology requires one single cable which can be inches long or miles long that links all nodes on a network. According to Lowe (2005) In a bus topology, every node on the network can see every packet thats sent on the cable. Each node looks at each packet to determine whether the packet is intended for it. If so, the node claims the packet .If not, the node ignores the packet. This way, each computer can respond to data sent to it and ignore data sent to other computers on the network. Bus network topology performance is depends on the number of the nodes, less node means more performance. The reason for that all computers use/share same cable for data transfer on the network. Also bus topologys data transfer rate is slower than other network topologies. However beside those disadvantages there are also several advantages of bus network topology. Bus topologies are very easy to install and extend. In addition Bus topologies are cheapest network topology if you compare with other topologies. And its very easy to identity wire faults. To sum up network topologies are base of the network design. It is possible to built better network topology if you have good knowledge of these network topologies which has mentioned above. Also you need to have the knowledge of each network devices to use them properly for your network needs. Not good configured network can cause problems such as waste of time and energy. So basically understanding network topologies and devices is key of building good network. Part B In this part of assignment software and hardware for business systems for accounting business activities will be examined with cost/benefit and importance to the success of the business in report form. INTRODUCTION Today computers have become very popular in every kind of sector. In business area there are many different and specific software for every need like the company or market sector. To run your own business you must have a good software for your needs, which is one of the most significant tools to achieve goals in your business. There is a big danger todays business world For instance if you do not have right tools which usually includes business software, it means your business will go down and down. When you started your own business the most important software that you must have are accounting software. These software are for the financial analysis, warehouse, software for budgeting, production and management. Accounting software have very big role to play for the success of the business because these programs plan and record all the movements. In addition you have chance to organize and manage whole activities. As long as you choose most suitable one for your business. THE ACTUAL DICUSSION/CONTENT/BODY SOFTWARE Firstly I would like to answer one of the most common question which is Why accounting software? The answer is simple If you open a small business in todays variable economic situation your business adventure might become exciting and complicated also expensive working. On the face of it, it seems very simple just ensure you are selling your goods for more than it costs to produce them. But it does not work like that because without proper bookkeeping, your business likely to collapse. That is why accounting software is a key for any small business to achieve big goals in the business sector. It must have a role to play in every financial decision A to Z such as purchasing equipments, stocking inventory, supplies to increasing production and determining salaries. If you do not have any background in accounting like most of people, you do not have to worry because todays accounting software have more information than you need. They give you the tools and info which helps to keep your financial records in check. Another one of the most asked question is what you should observe before you buy accounting software? Today there are many accounting software and it is very hard to know which software is the best fit for your business finances. We can divide Below I will explain them one by one. Firstly in accounting software ease of use is very important. Software should be easy to install, set up, and understand. The best accounting software navigates the user to what to do step by step so user do not have to think or guess next step. Second important thing is Accounting modules; Accounting modules are very important to successfully maintain your business finances like Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. The important thing is the software which you choose contains all the common accounting modules, you need. And the software which you choose should be able to grow with your company and customize your system for your business needs. Another important criteria is Reporting catagories

Students and Teachers :: Education School Papers

Students and Teachers Teachers and their students. When a person hears these words they think of a classroom and usually nothing more. The classroom, though, is only part of a student and their teacher. One might question, do they talk to each other outside of class? Do the students even like their teacher? Do their feelings about their teacher interfere with their willingness to learn? In response to the last question†¦YES! In my study of Mrs. M and Mr. B’s second hour English 10 class I noticed that there is a direct connection between students feelings of their teacher and their opinion of class. The site that I chose to observe was Capac Jr./Sr. High School located in Capac, Michigan. Honorable D.J. Walker developed the Capac school system in 1857, only 78 days after the town itself was founded. Until the year 1907, there were no 12th grade graduations in Capac. The current high school was built in the year 1931. In 1977 there were 24 rooms and a new gymnasium were added to the high school. In 1997 there was another wing added. This school includes five grades total (8-12), with 692 enrolled in Fall 2001. Capac High has four â€Å"wings†. These separate the classes and departments so that the science, English and math classes are in the same area. The wings are divided into 100s, 200s, 300s and 400s. Three of these sections are connected by one long corridor and the 400s wing is connected to the building by the 300 wing. The 400 classrooms are mainly for the junior high students so that they have a feeling of separation from the higher grades. The eighth g raders spend some of their time during the day in the main part of the school, but no other grades enter the eighth grade wing for classes. The specific class that I observed was Mrs. M and Mr. B’s classroom, room 112. This classroom is not large. It is, similar to the other classes in the school building, just the right size. The student’s desks face east, while the teachers’ desks face south. On the main wall (the east wall) is the dry-erase board. Every day the board has class assignments written on it, so the students know what to expect.

Adventures Assignment 1

The American University in Cairo School of Business Department of Management MOIS 508 DR. Sami Akabawy Spring 2012 Assignment #1 (Chap. 1,2 &3) Hadil Kamel 900-04-0195 Chapter 1: * Why would Carl Williams ask a non-technical manager to assume the CIO position? * For a CIO to be successful, especially at times when IT presents a problem area, he or she has to have more than just solid IT background. The CIO needs to have good management skills; they need to be a fixer.Jim Barton has the required management skills, he is considered as a great manager at IVK; he also had a lot of ideas regarding how IT should be run, and he used to critic Davies, the former CIO, on how to do his job. Therefore, he was a good candidate for this position because the company actually needed a good manager not a good technical. * If you were Jim Barton, would you take the job? * Yes, I would take the job. It is definitely a great challenge for someone with no IT background to become the CIO; however, a good manager should be able to run the business without having the deep knowledge of the matter.I would get the required background through research and learning. * What do the IVK Corporation exhibits tell you about the current state of the company? Given this information, what does IVK need from a new management team under CEO Carl Williams? * IVK statements show that the company has grown recently; however, it was not well planned and that is showing in the huge increase in the operating expenses. This growth was not done efficiently which lead to the decrease in net income despite the increase in total service revenue. The new management team should focus on making proper planning as well as new strategies that focus on managing the operations and resources efficiently and effectively in order to decrease the operating expense and increase the net income. Chapter 2: * How do you interpret the kid’s advice, â€Å"You’ve got to know what you don’t know†? * I think what the phrase means is that in order to become a good leader, you have to know your capabilities and your deficiencies and to be honest with yourself, especially when embarking on a new job you have to position yourself correctly and to give good impression to your employees. You have to know what is it that you lack and either try to learn about it or search for ways that your team could cover for the capabilities that you lack. The kid mainly meant that you can’t over-estimate yourself and like some managers do assume that you know everything about the matter, but rather admit your lack of knowledge in some areas and work on it. * How do you think Davies got fired? How likely it is that Barton will be fired within the year? * I think Davies didn’t have a strong connection with the CEO and his business peers, which lead to a communication problem between the management team and the IT department.I think he may also lack the business skills and competencies. * I think as a successful manager, Barton will be able to handle his job well. With his good managerial capabilities he will be able to develop good collaboration between the technologists and the management team; as well as enhancing and maintaining relationships with other business leaders. * What kind of questions should Barton be asking of CIOs, analysts, investors, customers and other IT movers and shakers? How should he prioritize and organize these meetings? For the CIOs: His questions should be focusing on the nature of the job, the key roles of CIO and the depth of technical knowledge required. * For the analysts: His questions should be on the IT impact on a company’s development. * For the investors and customers: His questions should be about their views on the service the company provides and how to improve it. * I think he should first meet with the CIOs to be able to understand his role and responsibilities, then with the analysts, then the investors and custome rs. Chapter 3: Do you think IT management is different from management of other functions? * Yes I think IT management differs from other functions because in It technology moves fast, and you can’t keep up with the fast growing technology that everyday something new is coming up and you always have to be up to dated. Although IT managers were experts in their fields and knew the details about it, new technology comes along and the technical workers are the one who know the details about it and become experts in it to a level that their managers can’t reach. On the other hand, in other functions, the manager can do the job of anyone in his department as well as any of his employees. * What did Barton learn from his trip to the bookstore and late night of studying? * After his trip to the bookstore and late night of studying, Barton realized he can’t get to know in depth everything; it is too much to grasp. * What depth of IT understanding must a CIO leader have t o be effective? * The CIO must have enough IT understanding that would give a general background on the matter to be able to assign who knows and does what in his team. Elie Wiesel’s Changes Essay

In the memoir, Night, we discover how Elie Wiesel, one of the minority of Jews to survive the holocaust during World War II, identity changes in response to his concentration camp experiences. The war had been raging for two years and was about to enter Sighet. The Germans believed in the Aryan race and attempted to commit genocide on the ‘lesser’ races, particularly Jews. The separation from Elie’s loved ones and the horrible conditions of these camps affect Elie immensely. Elie is affected in the following ways: physically, emotionally and spiritually. Through the brutality witnessed, acts of selfishness, the death of his father and the loss of his faith Elie changed. The Holocaust had changed him into a completely different person. The greatest change to Elie Wiesel’s identity was his loss of faith in god. Before he and his family were moved to the camps, Elie was a religious little boy who cried after praying at night. After a few days in Auschwitz, a concentration camp, Elie Wiesel heard about the crematory and the fact that the Nazi’s were killing the sick, weak, and the young. In his first night in the camp, Elie experienced his first crisis of faith. â€Å"Never Shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever†¦ Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my god and my soul and turned my dreams to dust.† Later, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, Elie was not able to celebrate the New Year with the other Jews in the camp. When the Rabbi said â€Å"Blessed be the name of the eternal,† Elie thought â€Å"Why, but why should I bless him?† In these quotes, Elie’s frustration and anger is directed towards god because he has no one else to blame. He is appalled by everything happening around him, and cannot believe the god he spent all his time praying to was letting this happen. Elie’s faith in god waned while he was in the camps. Since Elie used to be a religious Jewish person, losing his faith changes his identity.
